Have you a hydrotherapy pool near you?? (Local Leisure Centre) Warm water gentle swimming or Aerobics. (they can lower you in the water)
I think a good resource is the GI diet. You eat food that releases energy over time and it gives you an idea of the amounts to consume.

I think weightwatchers are starting up men only groups, although men are welcome at the usual meetings.Snootchie Bootchies!0

Weightwatchers in a word! (OK it's probably meant to be 2!) I'm a virtually full-time wheelchair user (doubt my walking is as 'good' as yours from what you describe) BMI was 36 in August last year, now 32 with no exercise. For the record I'm not on their payroll (but this question does seem to come up a fair bit!) :rotfl:"According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way that a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway. Because bees don't care what humans think is impossible" Bee Movie 20070

cross post! - not heard about men only meetings but they do have a men only messageboard on their website and they have online/home options if you don't fancy meetings - to be fair the women don't bat an eyelid at the men, it's just that the men seem to think they do - at the end of the day everyone is there for the same reason regardless of gender."According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way that a bee should be able to fly. I agree that weightwatchers will help you get the weight off but you are also going to have to do some exercise. The pool is great as its the water bearing your weight. Even resting your legs on a float and just using your upperbody will be of benefit Also theres lots of exercises you can do without having to weightbear - have a look at pilates perhaps?0

Really would suggest the SLIMMING WORLD diet to you. It's not a fiddly diet and would suit guys really well. You never need feel hungry with the healthy eating regime. I know most men wouldn't considering joining a diet club because it tends to have mostly women members. Take a look at their website and see what you think. Good luck.0

Why not join us on the Lose Weight thread on the 'I wanna' board?
When I first posted I was 17 stone and had a body fat % of 46.something, my BMI was 36.24 (Obese), now I'm 11 st 7.7 (just 7.7 lbs from my target) with a BMI of 24.52 (Healthy).
There are lots of ladies on there with various illnesses who find it difficult to shed lbs cos of medication and mobility issues, so they should be able to offer some advice Good luck with your weight loss journey Good luck with your weight loss journey Debt Free as of 17/01/2009 Turtle Power!! Slimming World would be great for you. You'll never be hungry, it's easy to follow and the results are fantastic.
There is a slimming world support thread in this forum - have a look and see what everyone else says.
Also, a few of us don't attend classes - you can be a postal member, an online member or you can go at it alone. The support on the forum is superb and keeps everyone motivated between meetings.
I was sceptical and never thought it would help me. When I started I was about 9 stone over the ideal weight for someone of my height. I've lost nearly 3.5 stone and it is still coming off at a steady pace. I haven't done half as much exercise as I should have. If you were to follow the eating plan and tie it in with your physio and any other physical exercise you can do, there is no reason why it can't work for you.
Good luck, and I hope everything goes well for you! x0

I'd suggest you look out for an aqua aerobics class - everyone can move at their own pace and the water supports your weight so it's a lot easier on your joints. But you can def get hot and breathless!! Good luck....
PS you can aqua jog as well, not tried it myself but the aqua marching at the start of the aerobics class (to warm up) would suggest to me that aqua jogging would be very effective!0
