  • Thank you, that makes a lot more sense (although I prefered my figures to yours!)
We will get a letter sorted to edf and send it recorded. I just hope their calculations aren't too crazy.
    Best get saving quickly!

    Thanks for all the help

I have the same problem with Electric, we've been in a new build for 4 years in may and never had a bill. I contacted them over and over again, still can't find me. Powergen have now been taken over so i contacted the new company and they told me they would look into this. They did tell me as long as they have record i've contacted them they would only back date it 12 months, still haven't heard anything from them.

So I guess so long as we get our letter in before they find us we are legally capped at the 12 months of back payments.
It does seem a bit crazy that you are chasing to try to pay but they don't actually seem to want your money!
Let me know if you have any joy

No you are legally capped at 12 months back payments regardless of a letter or contacting them.

The suggestion of a letter was IF you want to get things sorted out.

If nothing happens(no bill raised) for exactly another year then you will only pay from today.
  • Thanks - i think we will start saving and then get in contact, i feel a bit too naughty leaving it otherwise and a bit nervous of what would happen if we moved without ever paying them

My mums in a similar situation with british gas, she hasnt had a bill for nearly 2 years on her electric. However british gas do know there suppling her with her electric but cant bill her for it due to some messtake of sorts (i cant remember the exact reason, its something to do with account numbers). This happened a lot in the area where she lives, my auntie had the same thing happen to her.

What got on my nerves was at the time my mum had depression and was getting really upset by this, due to her panicing about when the bill arrives (she had rung them about 10 times). In the end I got on the phone to them myself and they told me to have my mum overpay on her gas so that when the electric bill does arrive, the over payment she had made would be used to pay off her electric bill.

So for at least 8 months she was over paying on her gas and then what shows up on her doormat..... a cheque for the overpayment she had made lol

When she told me this, I told her to stuff them, use as much electric as you want, dont worry and as theyve never be able to make you pay all this. As there was no way I was letting her get upset again.

I know there will be a final bill to pay when they do sort it, but ive said to my mum when it does arrive theyll have to spread the payment for as long as possible so that you can pay it, and theyll have to. Shes tried to pay them but they wouldnt take it, i cant see a judge going in their favour.

I envy my mum.... i wish I didnt have to pay for mine lol.

No doubt i'll be back asking for advice when the bill does arrive.

OOps forgot to add. I think when things like this do happen and you try to sort it, if they ignore you then stuff them. As others have said you will only be made to pay for the last 12 months..... i just hope for my mum it goes from summer to summer and not winter to winter as she'll pay less.
