'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

You couldn't make this up.

What does the government spend your taxes on when the economy is booming? Anti CO2 programs. What does it spend your taxes on when the economy is bust? Pro CO2 programs. Governments live in fear that they will succeed in their anti (something-or-other) programs, because jobs will be lost in the industry they are trying to discourage, which is bad for votes. So we then get more money wasted in a pro (something-or-other) program.0

id prefer to be able to get a NHS dentist than bail out a firm like landrover/jag - I will never be able to afford a £60k range rover !0

I would agree although sometimes it is a neccessity..like in my case.
* It really is by the way, disabled kids can't quite walk the near on 4 miles to school.
Disabled kids are picked up in taxis or mini buses and transported to school free of charge by the state.
I know this for a fact 1 nephew has downs another one has ataxia?
Why do you need a car?0 -
In France they have a bailout for the airlines as well. Free money for everyone! Roll up, roll up, get your handout here!

Ahhh you do, do you? So nice you know my life and what I have to do.
Well in the case of my children, they are not...it is all down to the local education authority and their available finances.
They did receive transport when their schools were 10 miles away in the next big town but they don't now, even though myself, the schools, my youngests son's specialist teacher have appealed against the decision..their response is no money, no transport apart from those going to special schools in the next town over.
So it means that I do need the car...be a bit hard to walk one hundred miles a week for school runs (they are not at the same school).
Your nephews are lucky, not everyone receives the free transport.
Edit - On reading this through again, I must apologise for my rather sarcastic and angry tone...it's been a begger of a start to the year.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
The problem is a lack of demand. If you just wait for people's finances to recover, they never will. The reason being of course a cut in income or unemployment, leading to a downward spiral of lower demand and further cuts in income. You need to have an income in order to save. You have to break the spiral somehow, and only the government can do it.Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0
