I've been so skint that I had to go and withdraw the last £8 out of my savings account to buy food and nappies for my son. I remember the woman in Abbey who served me giving me major evils!Mortgage-free wannabe!0

I once was so skint that my prepay electric meter ran out and i needed to find £2 down the back of sofas, etc to put money on it for power!
I was 26p short and bled the flat dry so i felt around that little rubber lip inside the washing machine where money and fluff seems to accumulate and i found 50p!
so my dinner consisted of a curly wurly!Debt Free Since September 2005!

yes - been there twice. First time in early twenties, but I had a network of close friend with similar lack of money. Used to soak oats over night (bought loose as cheaper) and eat for breakfast and lunch at one point.
Also hit rock bottom in my later twenties - but without the network of friends as I was by this time in another city and had split up from my boyfriend. I managed to subsist on benefit but was very frugal and would quite often go hungry.0 -
Yes I have been in the position that my wages come in one day then the next day mortgage, bills, debt payment and food comes out of the bank. Then the next day I have been left with nothing at all to live on throughout the rest of the month. I was literally living hand to mouth.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I havent been in this position totally, mainly like someone else said here, I could always get credit from somewhere...hence my major debt problem. There was a time when I was paying my bills and getting the cash off my cc as soon as it cleared. I also remember adding up my food shopping bill to the penny as I couldnt get a £10 note out of the cash point but I needed to buy food and I didnt want my card to get turned down.
Thanks for sharing everyone and keep smiling.:jDebt Free At Last!:j0 -
Have lived hand to mouth like many of you describe. Every payday the day after had 20p to live on.
The worst came when I got to work on the money in my penny jar ( The bus driver loved me £2.40 in 2 and 1p's) and knew at the end of the day I had no way of getting home and that there was nothing to eat when I did. Luckily this didn't last long!!Light bulb moment Dec 2005

Hi
Yep, I know exactly how that feels. I work 26 miles from my home and didnt have enough petrol, went to cash point and tried to get a few quid but no account including my credit cards would allow me anymore money!! It was a sunday so couldnt even go into the bank and get some cash.
I had to ring my work and apologise that I couldnt even get into work as had no cash. That was my lowest point and I never wanna get that skint again. I was distraught that things had got that bad.Millie :j
Am now really really trying!! Getting refund from National Express is certainly helping, plus am doing shifts at my old employers to get another £100 a month! THIS IS MY YEAR!!!0 -
I remember one time about 10 years ago, we had a dog and it was the day before payday and we didn't have any dog food left. Or any money. I ended up getting some sausages that we had left in the freezer, cooking them and adding gravy to them. That was the dogs dinner that night, not that he complained.
I wish I had had my lightbulb moment then. I wouldn't be in this mess now if I had.0
