Escaped from horrible husband ten(nish) years ago. Rented for first two years and I still shudder when I think about it. If there are any decent landlords out there I didn't come across them.
Bought three bed semi just as the market started to rise and flung money at the mortgage. Sold a bit of the garden and I've been mortgage free for the last year or so.
I fantasise about a new kitchen on an almost daily basis but until I have the cold hard cash to pay for it, it will remain a fantasy.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
18 (19 tomorrow!) and living alone in a privately rented one bedroom flat in Hull city centre. Was earning an OK wage for the area but switched to a lower paying job due to a bully boss. Now I'm living partly from wages partly from savings. I'm not in debt and never have been. The contract on my flat runs until April so I should be able to survive until then. I am looking for a better paid job. If I get a fairly safe one I will stay in my flat, if not I will probably move in with one of my parents - a failure, but not as bad as not being able to afford my flat with all its rising bills and getting into financial trouble.0

My Wife an I bought our first house, a 3 bedroom end terrance new build just over 3 years ago for 170k less deposit & cashback from the developer we put against the mortgage, so overall the mortgage was 162k after all fees/stamp duty (which at the time was just under 3.5x our joint income), we fixed on a rate of 4.5% for 5 years so have a couple of years left to run on that, the mortgage then goes to a lifetime base-rate tracker of 0.75 above.
Since buying we have both finished paying off our unsecured debt and have put aside 6 months of mortgage payments just in case, we decided to do that rather than have a holiday each year. We had our first trip away last summer since our honeymoon 5 years ago and it was lovely
. We have also had a lovely baby boy who has take up the spare room so we are saving as much as possible to see if we can't capitalise on the housing downturn to move to a 3 bed and office, so no holiday this year either. I suspect we are firmly in negative equity at the moment but I am not worried yet as we have no reason to sell at the moment. The only spanner in this plan is that Mrs Arc could lose her job in the next few months as she works for a small company that is reliant on the retail sector and the banks not pulling the plug. But we will have enough to get by without dipping into savings with only a little belt tightening. Please remember other opinions are available.0
