Bat poo turns to dust when dry and you can also see little shimmery bits in it - undigested insect wings.

Cheers again for the info guys.

I especially appreciate the fine detail from Money Mission - love the fact that it was a 'tea time' posting :rotfl:

Hopefully last nights disturbances was a one off - really don't fancy having to anymore 3am detective work again!

Luckilly I'm not scared of rats/mice/bats etc, but I really don't like creepy crawlies. I'm guessing (hoping) that being in the middle of the night and that it's January rules things like wasps out :o

The house (well it's my parents) is about 100 years old and large with a few 'nooks and crannies' and semi-rural so there's all sorts of things hanging about I guess......just hope they decide to be nice and quiet tonight!

Cheers again for the help and suggestions,

    S.

  • I can't imagine mice making banging noises so would rule them out! We had starlings nesting in our loft and the noise they made (more so when the eggs hatched) was unbelievable! They did route marches above us at all hours, loud enough to wake us up. The problem was only solved when we got new fascias fitted. I was so embarrassed when the fitters started clearing out the old nests!! I hasten to add that this was before the breeding season started again!

Birds are usually pretty quiet at 3am IME. I think its more likely to be a rodent. If it persists you can get rodent bait traps from most DIYs although I find the prices better in Countrywide superstore (not sure how national they are). If you buy one it needs to be the bigger rat-sized trap. The bait is poisonous, keep it away from kids etc. You need to try an put it on one of their "runs".
