BMW 525d SE or 520i SE

Hi

I am thinking of buying a 2-3 year old BMW, either the 525d SE or the 520 i SE petrol.

My preference is the deisel ( I have seen a 02/52 525d 'AVUS BLUE' sports model with 43k on the clock). From the figures a manual is more economical then auto but I have heard that auto is the best option for a BMW.

I would be grateful for any opinions or advice.

would definetely go for the diesel. excellent engine. naturally would go for a manual but for a bmw the resale value may be better if it was an automatic. check in parkers used guide for prices for a manual and a auto.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

Definitly the diesel ... but I'd opt for an auto. The 5 series is more a cruiser and the auto box is excellent. Its got a tiptronic mode so it can be driven like a manual anyway. IF you had said 3 -series, then I would have suggested the manual but in a 5-series, it has to be an auto. Resale is also much easier as most people prefer luxury cars to have auto boxes (unless its an M5 or something).
