dunno, i was there over christmas, brisbane, sydney and melbourne seemed to contain their fair share of people who were drinking like they meant it.

granted it wasn't anything like hastings' high street of a friday, but then where is.

Most High Streets up and down the UK?

Arguments include lack of available housing and lack of building in the past 5 years.

Those were the exact same arguments that were used here.

I'm getting a hint of de javu.

Aussies and Brits both drink a helluva lot. Some rural communities in Aus have really bad alcoholism.

But I've definitely noticed more of a work-related drinking culture in London than Sydney. Maybe it's the team I'm in, but there are a lot more functions and client dos where everyone is encouraged to get on the pi$$.

Ah well the Aussies gave us Rolf Harris, so we've given them a little something in return - not quite Kylie I'm afraid!

have you heard of koolan island in wa?
I once stayed there for 6 months it was ex-miners from the miners strike...it was one of those places you never forget//
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

$4 billion (Aus) To prop up commercial landprices. Like the boy trying to stop the dike wall from collapse

"The difficulty is that if commercial property developers find themselves in a position where they can't refinance existing loans, so this is whether it's for new developments or existing developments, they have no alternative but to sell down those assets, those properties," he said.
"If that produces a general downward pressure on land prices, that's where the cross-infection into house prices and house and land packages can start."

So am I. Based on the last 18 months in the UK, I predict that Australian lenders will start to collapse, they will need to be propped up by the taxpayer, fiscal stimulus will need to be applied, and Generali's children end up paying more taxes anyway. Or maybe they will do nothing, let the banks fail, wiping out Aussie's savings. I suspect they will not choose the second option.

I've not heard of it but those mining places can be pretty wild! My FiL taught in a school in a mining town for a bit.
