To clarify - Asda smartprice jaffa cakes are 50p for 12 in a white wrapper.
Sainsbury's & Tesco are 60p for a box of 2x 12 of basic/value jaffa cakes.0 -
Prices, don't get me started. Yes, I've noticed the supermarkets prices have rocketed so now I see if I get items cheaper at Poundland, Home Bargains or Iceland. I also agree with the mass of Asda rollback stickers, you need sunglasses! The end of the aisles will do for bargains please..
As for pricing, I guess with the larger supermarkets you are paying for the wider choice of products and they will pass on the associated costs of floor space etc. They are obviously trying to get on the bandwagon of people downshifting to own brands, but I feel they misjudge their customers this time round because we will either not buy it or shop elsewhere. The constant movement of prices/offers lately makes shopping a maths lesson. Who needs Carol Voorderman!
Sorry for the rant, I feel better now.0 -
I agree with you.
The UK government reckons that inflation is falling but I can't see how they arrive at that conclusion. Milk and bread prices, for example, have leapt 50% over the past year. Fuel prices have too. Also, petrol prices are really not as low as they ought to be, given that oil is hovering at around $40 a barrel.
Maybe consumer goods, ie electrical and white goods are falling in price? But even if this is so, that trend must soon be reversed with the falling value of sterling against most other currencies.0 -
Are the Asda ones you buy in a white wrapper, not a box? I bought some last week. I'll have to see if I can find my receipt.
Can't find any receipts. I thought they were still about 30p!
Yes, those are the ones I think. 30p in December, went to 40p in January and more recently, 50p. That's a 60% increase in a few weeks. If they put them up to 60p then they may do a BOGOF so that everyone thinks they are doing us a favour.
I don't know how many (if any) of the ingredients are imported but the low exchange rates could make a difference. We need more self sufficiency in our food growing/manufacture to keep basics at a reasonable price (this goes way beyond Jaffa Cakes).0 -
