My wife was offered a job through an agency which was more suitable than the one she had, (more hours). She attended an interview, the pay, hours etc were sorted out and she started this morning. Being told by the agency this was a "prestigous" company and appearence was of the upmost importance, she went out and paid £60.00 for suitable smart workwear.
On arrival at her new job the company said that the hours she was told she would be working ( 8-4.30) were never available, only 3-11.00pm totally unsuitable.
So my wife has no job, is £60.00 out of pocket and the agency has not even bothered to ring her to explain or apologise    !!!

So many employers seem to treat potential employees with disrespect. The same disrespect from a potential employee would result in them not being employed.
Its very unfair.
Still her suit will be good for future interviews and that new job that she wiil get eventually if she keep trying like she has here.qui tacet consentire -

OUCH!!
I think that she needs to get in contact with the agency as soon as possible to explain this and see what the response is...
Being realistic though (and this is simply based on your initial post - there may be more info?), it may be the fault of the employer also giving incorrect/misleading/false (delete as necessary) information to the agency when the vacancy was placed - it wouldn't be a first. If the hours were discussed at the interview and agreed upon, then this is even more of a possibility due to a blatant inconsistency.
If your wife does not contact the agency, they may not be aware of the full details of the situation that has occured that if my above sentence is correct, they need to be investigating their client...
Sorry to read of your wife's problems though, that is not good..."Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

years ago i was out of work for about 6 months when an agency told me i had a job to start the next monday (had an interview). good money etc. being out of work for 6 months i was so happy, rang my mum and mates and that to tell them the good news.
2 hours later i had to phone them all back again to retract the good news as the agency called back to say "no job. the person who was leaving today has decided not to leave"!
b&*!"ardsThere's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
An agency rang and offered me a job on a Monday and said I must start the following Monday as someone was leaving. I had to give a weeks notice in the job I was in, so she told me to give notice immediately, then call into the office on the Wednesday to sign contracts and stuff with the agency.
Got there on the Wednesday and she breezily said "oh I gave that job to someone else instead but we'll keep you on the books in case something else turns up"
Didn't want to retract the notice at the current job, and had already started to build up the self employment I do now, so it was an incentive to do the self employment full time. Thankfully it worked out ok!Here I go again on my own....0 -

A friend of mine showed up for a job as a temp and it was totally different to what he was told it would be. He rang the manager of the employment agency and give her a bit of his mind. The next day he ended up with a different job with better hours and more money.
It might be worth a shot, at the very least it'll give you a chance to blow off some steam!!0 -
I am a recruitment consultant and its companies like this that give us all a bad name. I would ring them and ask to speak to the manager and thoroughly complain, get the employer to complain too. Encourage them to not use that agency again.
Might be worth checking if they are a member of REC, https://www.rec.uk.com and if so, complain to REC. They will take them through a disciplinary procedure. Unfortunately if they're not a member, there's not a lot they can do.0 -
I've had a few bad experiences with Agencies. The most entertaining was being sent for an interview with a company of solicitors in Taunton for an IT post. I was interviewed by the head of the partnership and asked about my Novell network qualifications. I'm MS qualified not Novell, so was totally unsuited to the post. I showed the interviewer my CV (that I'd sent to the agency), and then he showed me what they had been sent. The CV was certainly a work of art. It backfired on the agency as the solicitors went to court for breach of contract with the agency!0
