Paid for switching electricity supplier

Just received a cheque for £12.50 from energyhelpline.com for switching electricity suppliers. Totally forgot i used them to switch and was not expecting this cheque, must have seen something on this amazing website to make me use them in the first place, what a nice surprise.

Can I ask when you initiated your switch through Energyhelpline? I switched on the 26th October and haven't received my £12.50 yet. Just thinking about chasing them up now.

I think it depends on when the supplies actually get switched. My new suppliers kicked in in December and I got one credit (direct into bank account) at the end of December and my second one has just come through. Changed to 2 suppliers so got 2 lots of £12.50.

If your new suppliers have kicked in I would suggest making contact with energyhelpline.

Electricity switch was 26th November, gas 7th December both to London Energy so it would be one payment.

    I think I'll email energyhelpline.

Jem, I said I would let you know when I got my cashback and I've just checked my bank account online and noticed that £12.50 was credited yesterday under the name of FUNDRAISING INNOVA. I applied via Energyhelpline on 4th Nov 2005 and the electricity was supplied by London Energy on 27th November and the gas on 12th December. You should have received your cashback before me and no doubt you will have chased it up since your last post so have you received it yet?

You're welcome Gambler. I wasn't sure if it related to the cashback either until I checked the Cashback Questions and Answers which I had copied and pasted from the website when I applied to switch just in case I had to chase it up. The following confirms it:-

How will I receive the money?
If you switch to a direct debit tariff we will send it straight to your bank account. If you switch to a different payment method we will send you a cheque.
If you are checking your bank statement, the BACs payment will be labelled EnergyHelpline or FirstHelpline Cashback and it will come from our holding company's bank account (Fundraising Innovations Ltd.).

Thanks for letting me know. I did chase them up as I still haven't had my cashback. I got a phone call from them last week asking how I had got to know about their cashback deal. I told them I had clicked on the link through MSE. The said that it wasn't on my initial application for some reason and that he would amend this as I clearly went through the right link. He did say that it might take another 6/8 weeks to go through but possibly may be sooner.

I'll keep an eye on it.

Me too, just found £12.50 in my bank account and no idea why. Google led me to this thread. Thanks again to MSE for the advice.

My only complaint (aimed at the utility suppliers) is that by underestimating my usage when I went on a monthly payment scheme, I was "locked in" by the £300 debt that was built up over the previous two years. Before my finances were radically improved by going on a DMP I would not have been able to pay this £300 and switch to a cheaper supplier. Another case of the poorer you are the more things cost.
