Errmm - I usually use what is in the fridge! A good easy one to start with is carrot and lentil but I don't follow a recipe - just guess amounts! I soak the lentils then, whilst they're simmering in the bottom of my steamer, the carrots are being steamed in the top. I then put it all in with veg stock until lentils are soft and then blend it, adding garlic granules or whatever you like to season it.

You can just bung a load of veg in stock and simmer it until it's soft, then blend it and add seasoning.

I'm sure others on here have proper recipes - I just make up mine!!!

Big flakes of snow now - almost unknown down here!!

have showered, dressed (only in slob around clothes but better than pjs!) and oven is on waiting for chicken to go in. Also done my 30 mins wii fit and then spoken to my mum.

Time for a cuppa whilst I prep the veg & stuffing and i'll stick the final load of washing in at the same time.

Lentils or pearl barley will make it thicken - I like my soup thick, but my dad always adds water to mine when he heats it up as he prefers it thin

Just experiment - that's what I do! Don't think I've ever made the same soup twice!

Now going to do some filing ............

Our walk was really nice even if it was freezing! There were loads of other people out walking along the canal too, and I spotted that one of them had put her hood up - that seemed like a good idea, so I did, and it was - much warmer as my ears weren't getting blown by the wind. It was a bit muddy in places, and silly me had only worn trainers instead of wellies, so a couple of bits were quite amusing with me tiptoeing through the least boggy parts trying not to get the bottom of my jeans all muddy. We timed it just right and got back at 1.40pm (took 1 hour 25mins), and had a really nice bowl of the soup which is now portioned up for my lunches this week. It's snowing here as LadyLiberty said, and has (according to OH's latest announcement) started to settle.

OH is doing the washing up as we speak, so will probably only have a few bits to redo tonight after my next lot of cooking (potato pesto bake). OH has a tendency not to be quite as thorough as I am (I'm a perfectionist) and I often find little bits that he's not got off properly.

One load of washing is in the TD and one in the WM. Have made sure that I've done all the work trousers and my gym bottoms and will do a white wash afterwards to get all of the tops and socks etc done. OH will be out at his shooting club as usual tonight so will be able to get lots done whilst he's out.

Little black furry (cat) was funny earlier - he went out in the snow (he doesn't normally like snow) and sat there in our garden glaring at it indignantly as it came down. He then went into MIL's garden (next door) to check whether it was falling in her garden, then came back and went next door the other side before coming in and deciding that it was obviously determined to spoil his fun wherever he went! lol

Mumofjusttwo, I'll pm you my recipe for today's soup if you want - nice and thick. The carrot and coriander one I did last week was also thick - it was found on the internet here
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.
