I am in need of help.
I have set up an OfficeConnect router to provide common internet access to a PC via an ethernet cable and a notebook via a wireless connection, both with the same SSID.
I have shared folders on both PC and notebook and a printer on the PC also.
I have tried various options of the home networking wizard (XP) , creating the same workgroup on each one but am unable to see the other's shared folders etc.
Can anyone offer advice
Thanks, in advance

have you got firewalls enabled?0

First think to check is whether both computers have an IP address.
On each computer can you do the following:
Click Start -> Run
type in 'cmd' (without the quotes) and press enter.
This should open up a DOS windows.
Here type in:
ipconfig
this should bring up some info.
Please list the IP Address, Subnet mask, and Gateway for each computer
e.g. for my PC its:
IP address ....... 192.168.1.101
Subnet mask......255.255.255.0
Gateway ...........192.168.1.1Why do companies offer you "free gifts?"
Since when has a gift NOT been free?0 -
Thanks guys
I think one of them has the firewall running so I'll try disabling that.
As the Gateway was 192.168.1.1, I have already manually set the other 2 as 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 with a sub address of 255.255.0.0.
These are actually a friend's machines and I was seeking ideas of what to check. Will try running IPconfig and pinging the PCs.
Do you know if the workgroup should be the same as the SSID name?0 -

Shouldn't make a difference, just make sure both PCs have the same workgroup name. Why do companies offer you "free gifts?"

When you created the folders who did you give the rights to ?
All accounts will need to be set with same name and password on each machine.
Put these accounts into the groups. assign the groups rights to the folders.
Ensure firewall is not turn on for the internal connections
Firewall may have turned off file sharing !
Make sure you do not turn file sharing on for the internet interface of the firewall.
The SSID is just for the wireless networking. Have you given the machines names and the same DNS suffixes ?
Finally are you using xp pro or home SP2 or earlier ?Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0 -

Try running the Network Setup Wizard in Control Panel and choose 'Turn on file and printer sharing'.0
