    After two days on the phone this is where I am now
    - there was a previous debt of 200 pounds from previous tenant
    - I am being charged for that doubt for some odd reason - even after sending a tenancy agreement to them last week proving that I was a new tenant it took me two more days is yesterday and today to get the records updated. I am still not sure if they have updated it
    - they are sending me a new key which will theoretically not charge me extra but I can only use it once my existing money in the current key runs out. I am supposed to ask for a refund once the current key runs out as it is charging me at a higher rate

    With regards to screen info here us the info
    Screen f - £1.14 charge/week
    Screen g - 357.3 kWh
    Screen h - 103.48 kWh rate 1
    Screen I - 12.27 pence per kWh

    If it helps, here is a list of the screens on your key meter, I would advise you to insert the key into your meter to check screens R, S, T.

    A) tells you how much credit is in your meter
    E) tells you how much money you have inserted into your meter
    f) tells you of the standing charge and if you are paying a debt recovery rate through your meter
    g) is how much kwh total you have used
    H) this screen tells you how much your units you have used on the day rate.
    i) is your price per unit
    J) (if you have one) is the amount of units you have used on your night rate.
    K) is your price per unit on the night rate
    L) (if you have one) is your control rate eg heating etc.
    m) is your price per unit on the control rate
    r) your emergency credit limit (normally £5.00)
    s) if you have a debt on your meter - this will tell you how much is outstanding
    T) if you are paying a debt recovery rate through your meter, this will tell you how much per week it is being paid back at.

    Hey guys, could you please explain me something: how it is possible to acummulate debt with prepayment key/card? If my credit runs out, electricity goes off, and that is it - then I top up.

    I pay around £3 a day for small 1 bed flat for electricity (heating is electric only) . I also consider it too much (approx. £80-90 per month). I was hoping that the bill will go down after winter is over, but we do not use electric heaters anymore and is still £3 per day! Then I assumed that water is being heated 24/7, so there is no way we can reduce our electricity expenses, unless we move to more reasonable place of course :)

    A debt can accrue on a PPM where a tariff increase occurs and the meter is not recalibrated to reflect the new rates.

    This effect was much more prolific with older style token meters, but can still occur with keycard meters if the unit charge is not sucessfully updated.

    Some companies will now waive any such debt, others will attempt to recover it.

    You should be able to manually turn off your water heater at the switch.
    Can you not get a timer fitted to your electric water heater?

    Re above, there could be any number of reasons, for example, When the price per unit was increased/decreased - was your meter updated to reflect this? if not, then it could be due to the Price per Unit (ppu), or at any point did anyone use your payment card to purchase elect for their meter? have you used anyone else's card? - there could be a discrepency with that.

    I would also advise consumers to keep a hold of their receipts, after all your receipts are classed as your proof of purchase.


    Re using about £3.00 per day, I would advised you to get into contact with your supplier and tell them to either fit a timing device or switch your current one off.

    it's not your supplier's responsibility to sort out timers on your electric appliances!

    If you are in rented accommodation, you could ask the landlord if they will do it. Most likely they wont so you'll have to arrange for someone to do it for you.

    I think there are varying views with an electric water tank boiler whether it's more efficient to keep it on all the time, or switch it on and off. We have ours on overnight every other night, which works fine for us. Does it have a manual on/off switch?
