Car Insurance - Swapping Cars over?

Hope someone can help. It's probably a daft question, but I've never been in this situation before and am a bit confuzzled!
I have an old car I am intending to sell. Still a runner, MOT'd until September and taxed until end of Feb 2009. Car needs a bit of TLC - good clean (I have a dog!), couple of minor repairs before it goes up for sale.
I am in the process of buying a new car which will be arriving next week.
My insurance for my old car runs out in mid-April 2009. I'd like to swap the insurance on to my new car later this month, but then my old car won't be insured and I won't be able to let anyone drive the old car to test drive it etc. The old car will be off the road (literally), at my parents for a month or so while it's fixed up for sale.
Don't suppose there is any way I can cheaply insure both cars for a month is there??:o Am I missing something obvious? What does everyone else do in this situation?
BTW, I'm with Direct Line if that helps! Again, sorry if it's a daft question, but I have only ever had one car at a time previously and am not sure how to sort this!

Phone your insurance company. Most will be able to insure both cars for a short period of time (up to one month) on one policy.0
