Any one else had any good news recently??

Options
Hi :j

Thought i would post a cheery note today, and share some good news, just as a chin up for everyone who is slogging away at their mountain of debt.

Recently had lots of unexpected bills - 4 new tyres all in one go (thought it would be 2 max), neighbours want nearly £300 towards roof repairs, etc.

OH recently claimed for 2003-2005 uniform laundering tax allowance (helpful tip off another MSE thread) - only £110 a year, but it all helps.
Well blow me away, if he didn't get a nice letter and cheque stating they had looked into it, and he had over paid tax 2003-2004 and would he send P60 to them so they could check 2004-2005.

Cheque so far for 2003-2004 = £624, and looks like a bit more to come :T
With his extra hours over Xmas, he will have managed to clear his overdraft when this cheque clears, meaning we can focus on the next target - one of the many CC's we have. :o

I'm waiting for Mar/April when i can claim my mileage allowance back. :rotfl:

I know we have a long hard slog ahead of us (just over 30k as of Dec 05  ), but wanted to look on the bright side of things for today. Reckon it's the first time we haven't gone out and blown a wind fall like this!!! Must be learning something off this site!! :D

Good luck everyone, and keep looking at that small speck of light at the end of the tunnel! With all the great support on here, we should all see it getting brighter!!

    Hi Narva
I think it depends what your OH does. Check out the tax threads on the forum.
My OH is an ambulance technician, so has to wear a uniform for work.
He is allowed an extra tax allowance of £110 a year to account for laundering said uniform.
Had no idea, until i was poking around on this site a while ago. Since then, OH has been very interested in MSE. Has put in a claim for 2003-2005, and they are adjusting for 2005-2006.

    :D

I posted last week about my good news :D but for those who missed it....;)

After 15 mths battle after a car accident the other party's insurers have finally agreed to pay up ....out of court :D:D

Will be getting a nice cheque in post in a couple of weeks (payment thru courts still  ) for £9.5k!! :j :j

So I will be paying off all our debts with £3.5K left over! Woohoo!!
  • I read about the uniform/tax thing on MSE too, when I phoned the tax office it turned out that I'd been getting the allowance since I'd started working at my employer. It doesn't hurt to check though.

    Wow - Karma67, that's great news!

And Lydia, it sounds like you're having a run of decent luck too.

Rache - I sometimes wish I was not so darn organised because it would be nice to "forget" expenses so that when they're reimbursed it's a surprise!

I got a promotion last week!!

    So that means payrise!!! yippee.

That means that I can save more for paying towards my debts and have a holiday this year.
  • 16 months ago I left the job Im in now to do something completely different.

I went to work at local hospital in the sterilisation dept. , sorting and laying out all the tools etc for operations.

It wasn't for me and after 3 months I went back cap in hand to my original employer and asked for my job back and got it!! Also got made up to restaurant manageress!

Got a letter the other day out of the blue from the hospital saying there is a pay award due to me and could I confirm name and address so they could send it to me???? (Was only there just under 3 months)

Now it can't be much but any cash out the blue has to be good news so Im waiting with baited breath for my unexpected windfall ;)
