Egg Credit Card PPI reclaiming

Options
Hi Everyone,

I hope someone can help. I am currently in the process of reclaiming Egg credit card charges, but I am now looking into whether I can claim back the PPI I have been paying every month since I received the card.

I first had the card when I was a student and started paying PPI fom the first month. I have absolutely no idea how or why I took it out because thinking about it, it was absolutely no use to me whatsoever!

I cant seem to access my PPI policy online either as I applied for it online.

So before I take this any further, has anyone had any success in reclaiming from Egg? and does anyone have any tips for going about reclaiming beyond what is available on this site?

Thank in advance everyone.

I'd like to know about this too as i'm trying to get a copy of my contract/terms for my old egg card (that i had in about 2002/3) and my egg loan which i'm currently paying off, as i have no idea if i am or ever did pay any ppi!
I had my egg card and loan from online when i was a student too so any ppi would have been useless to me.

  • For those who applied for their Egg Card online and found PPI was added from day 1, you may be interested to know that I am in the process of working through a complaint about this. The full details can be found here:-

(I don't think you need to be a member to view, but you would need to sign up to post any questions or comments).

I think the issue you will have is that, although the insurance policy was undoubtedly unsuitable for you as a student, they will say they sell PPI on an "information only" basis and therefore if they are only giving you facts it is impossible to "mis-sell" the insurance.

I beg to differ, as you will see on my thread at consumeractiongroup.

Also note that Egg were recently fined for mis-selling PPI insurance with their Egg Cards. This only applied to telephone sales - however, it does show that they are vulnerable.

Thanks for that link Militantconsumer, i remember that screenshot from when I first used Egg, looking at it now I can see where the issues with "mis-selling" comes in. I wouldn't have thought twice about saying yes when I was younger, it seemed like it's a saving grace when in actual fact it did nothing for me as i wasn't even employed at the time?! I don't quite get what the"information only" basis means tho I'm sure there's plenty of info on what it is (in very very layman's terms lol.)

  • A brief update I suppose!

Have finally cancelled my insurance which I have had for 5 years! I wonder how much exactly I have paid !!!!!!!!!!!!

They are also sending me through the t&c's to the ppi which should arrive shortly.

Also, I wonder if the fact they cancelled my card has any baring on the validity of the ppi???

Comments and anyone with any info would be more than welcome and please feel free to get in touch if anyone wants to pass on other useful info.

Will post more updates when I get everything through.

    Cheers guys.

  • Hi Everyone,

Received my "screen shot" over the weekend from Egg at the point where I applied for my card and "asked" for loan insurance. This is classed as "Accident, Sickness, Unemployment and Life" Payment Protection. My first query would be as I was a student when applying how would the employment protection have worked then? I had a part time job when at uni, but that ranged from 0 hours to maybe 10 a week ... thats even if I worked as it was my final year.

So im not sure of my next steps now on how to approach this. Has anyone had any success from Egg Credit Card Payment Protection? Would be good to hear from you.

    Thanks,

    Dai
  • The simple answer to your question is that Egg say they are an "information only" provider who sell online with no saleperson involved - therefore mis-selling is impossible, you could see the terms and conditions, etc. etc.

If you have another look at my consumeractiongroup thread linked to above you will see that there are some more recent comments now added. One link is to "scrambled Egg", another thread on consumeractiongroup, with detail of successful and unsuccessful claims.

Of course, you have nothing to lose by making a complaint about this to FOS. It might give you some satisfaction to know that, win or lose, Egg will be charged a fee for the investigation. I hear it's about £400.
  • did I read correctly that they cancelled your card?

I have seen people win with Egg for misselling. Some were pre ticked boxes:confused:
