Hi all,

Does anybody know if it is possible to transfer road tax to another car if they are in the same Tax Band??

The situation is that im buying a car with 1 month tax left till the end of Feb, and selling my car which tax runs out at the end of May and they have told me i can keep my tax. Can you actually transfer it or do you just apply for a refund?

Thanks

no, you cannot transfer car tax.
You have to send it back for a refund
The easiset thing to do is just sell the tax on to the new buyer, this makes things easier for you and him
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

You will have to cash in the one for your old car and buy a new one for the other.

You will only get back money for complete months left on the old tax.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

  • We motor traders can no longer cash in the RT at the month end due to more money making laws by the tvvats that run this country, so we just tell customers now to cash it in their selfs or we'll buy it off them at what ever value it has remaining, then we will sell it on to the next owner.

Don't forget to get it in the post at the latest by the last day of the month,(Saturday in this case) or you will lose February's amount.

Best way if you cannot get to a local office, is the PO and ask for "proof of posting" certificate,(this is free).

Anyone know if this is still the case?

Just saw a good deal on used cars at local Peugeot garage but I've just taxed the car at end of Jan for a year!

    Thanks!

Unfortunately I can't pick the car up until next week :( So will miss out on a whole month.

Oh well, got an ex demo car with £1,500 knocked off so can't complain :)
