Deed of Assignment

Hi, can anyone confirm that a Deed of Assignment transfers the policy to another party?

My husband and his ex-wife still have a joint investment and life plan (divorced for 6 years), Norwich Union got in touch with my husband last year using his National Insurance Number to trace him. They said there is a policy which is ready to pay out. Both him and his ex filled in forms, with change of address and in her case name also. We've now received a deed of assignment, and what I gather its to transfere the policy to one or the other is this correct?

Any help would be appreciated.

best wishes
Charlotte
