My House Renovation!

  • I've just followed your blog to (I'm Sam). My blog is http://thehouserenovationinsurrey.blogspot.com/

Your project looks huge, but the house looks to be in a similar state as ours when we first got it. We moved in June 30th, so a similar time. And it's also our first home.

I've just skimmed your blog for now to nosy at the pictures, can I be really rude and ask what your budget is? You seem to have a few luxuries (underfloor heating and hidden sliding doors...very posh :))

Our budget was £10k, but have spent about £12k so far. Now we're having to slow down and spend what we earn as we have no savings left. We won't be able to do our kitchen for years unfortunately :(

It's not rude at all! I think its good to share these things so we can check we're not getting ripped off!

Our budget was £19,600 and it has all been spent :-( We are having to fund the kitchen like you, as and when we get the money. Although Ikea have a buy now pay in 12 months so we may take advantage of that!

I've got a spreadsheet at home of what we have spent so I'll have a look later and give you the full breakdown.

I know the costs of some of the work:

Construction (knock down 3 walls, one load bearing and install RSJ and Stud support wall and the pocket door downstairs, knock down chimney and support in roof and knock out wall between pantry and outside toilet and brick up door and line. Line chimney and install fire and false front) = £3748.66 inc VAT

Plumbing (Replace all lead pipes with polypipe, install bathroom including moving soil stack and kitchen appliances, cold feed to the pantry including waste and an outside tap) = £2915.25

Building Notice (including Part P certificate) = £388.93

Double Glazing (2 x 5 window bay windows, front and back doors, french doors and small window in pantry) = £4090

Plastering (board and skim everywhere) = £2400 + £800 materials

I'll add to this later when I have my list to hand!

    Hope this helps

Want to paint one of our walls in the kitchen diner as we have some odd bits in red (blind, pans etc!) and was wondering what a nice red is? it has to be a kind of pilar box but not blinding! you know not the burgundy type..
    Anyone used one they love?
    Thanks

Ive just had the same problem trying to find the right red. Not too burgundyish and not too orangeyish :D for my chimney breast to go with my very pale cream walls. I wanted a feature wall and after all of the plastering being done my OH wont alow any wallpaper to go up and spoil his lovely wall

I have just painted it wiht a Dulux paint called ruby fountain 2. its in B&Q on the colour cards and its lovely its a true red so might be what your looking for.

Oh and PS thanks to you all for posting your blog on your house renovations they are soo great to have a good nosey. I wish I'd done that with mine but its too late now.
