credit card application

Hi all

Recently I tried to apply for an Egg credit card and was refused due to some mismatches with details. I sent an email to Egg so that I could clarify this information, but they have not replied and I cant get through on their number. I have read your advice on the credit cards that provide the facility to balance transfer to accounts and that is what I would like to do to clear some existing debts. I dont have any credit cards. I dont understand why I could not get the credit because I have being paying my bills, but I have noticed that since I moved to my current address I have been refused credit.

At my old address I had no problem obtaining any credit. Please could you provide a solution for me.

Thanks

  • Have you checked your credit reference? You can get a free trial at https://www.creditexpert.co.uk

Also if you've only had problems since moving to your present address you might find that the house is "black listed" I'd give Egg a ring again and see why you were declined. Do you have an MBNA/Virgin/Mint card all of these allow BT from your current account. You might be able to get a special deal - I was offered 0.9% by Virgin 3 weeks ago for 6 months.
  • I have just read some advice and I have purchased the credit reeport to check what is happening. Am I right in assuming I maybe better off waiting for the report before I apply for MBNA, Virgin or MINT?

    Thanks for the speedy reply!

I was under the impression that properties cannot be 'blacklisted' .....

nor can people, they just have poor ratings

    Another thing specimen75_75....

Are you on the Electoral Roll?? you say you have moved recently, they may not have updated their records therefore the CRA would not be able to verify you address...therefore reducing your chances of getting any credit.

I would wait until you have your credit reports before making any more applications for credit....so you have a chance of recitfying any mistakes on them (if any), also too many credit searches on your credit reports in a short space of time also has an adverse effect on getting credit.

    HTH :D
