planting vegetables indoors

I would like to start some vegetables off indoors for my daughter to watch grow.

Are there any that are suitable for this? Or am I best sticking to some flowers

  • depends on what sort you were thinking of, my children always love to watch the cress grow and love it in a sandwich.

    Hi

Mustard and cress was always a good starter, you can grow it on a sheet of kitchen towel, or draw a face on a cleaned yogurt pot and let the cress become hair!! ( I guess this depends on how old she is)

Herbs are pretty easy to grow indoors on a sunny window sill as is rocket (for a quick crop)

Also you may want to think about some fruit. Home Bargains has a starter strawberry kit for 99p which includes seeds, seedtray, compost and a clear lid so that it works like a mini greenhouse)

I'm sure others will correct me add better ideas later

One other thought, you could try doing an experiment with whatever you decide to grow and make some mini greenhouses out of the cut of bottoms of clear plastic bottles and covering some seeds with these and some without to see if it makes some grow faster and better than others?

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Sweetcorn in the sofa works well
Pears on the stairs are harder.
  • If you have any outside growing space garden peas are my favourite to grow with kids. We set ours off around this time of year and plant out at the end of feb. They don't take up too much space and are great to watch grow, flower and crop. Mine eat them straight out of the pods.

Do you start them off indoors, or do you start them off in a greenhouse?
