Is this bad? C:\WINDOWS|csauie.ocx

Hello

I hope someone can help me. I'm not particularly techy, and my McAfee has discovered a potentially unwanted programme that it has identified as C:\WINDOWS\csauie1.ocx
It is asking me if I want to remove it or not, and I haven't got the foggiest!

I've had a look at the C drive and it was created at the same date and time as CouponPrinter.ocx. They are both ActiveX Controls, whatever they are.

I guess that this is actually OK as I have recently turned into a Couponista (thanks to this site!)

If anybody is able to cast a light on this I'd be very grateful!

(Ps ~ Mcafee is awful, id suggest a change of anti virus)

  • That may well be the case, but you will end up with unwanted pop ups and various advertising messages that you might not want viewed on a public, or otherwise, PC.

Use McAfee to remove it and the use spybot or adaware to check for others nasties

  • Hello guys, thanks for the quick responses.

I guess I got it by downloading the couponnet voucher printer. Is it odd that I've not had any unwanted pop ups or ads since starting to print coupons if that is what this thing does?

I've tried to download Malwarebytes but I get an error:
mbam.exe - Unable to locate component
THis application has failed to start because MSVBVM60.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Except it doesn't, I've tried re-installing and the same thing happens.

I've done as suggested and removed it using McAfee for now.

I must admit, I've not before had any problems with my pc/security/unwanted nasties (fingers crossed) and have always had McAfee. However in the past I always just got the firewall/anti-virus protection from them; this year I got full internet security suite as that was cheaper, and boy has my pc slowed down! I know I really should look at all the other anti-nasty prgorammes out there, but I'm not overly techy and like most sheep have always gone for what I recognise....... also as I've not had problems until now, its never bothered me

Any suggestions as to the Malwarebytes error?

A self-extracting executable file that includes the Msvbvm60.dll and Stdole2.tlb files, as well as other Microsoft Visual Basic run-time files, is available for download.

  • Hello again
I did as browntoa said and installed Visual Basic, then re-installed malwarebytes. I got another two errors this time:
VbAccelerator SGrid II Control runtime error '0'
    followed by
    Runtime Error '440': Automation Error

Malwarebytes seemed to finish installing OK after I'd OK'd both of the errors, so not sure what they mean?

I let it update and am now running full scan. Will post again as soon as its done
  • Hello, me again.

But it looks like malwarebytes has done it's trick. Fortunately, Adware.coupons has been prevented from doing any worse
