The only person who wont take advice and really needs it is my sister. Shes at uni and is spending far more than she gets in, even with a part time job.

I know what its like as I've been there but she s very stubborn and thinks she has money to burn.

I've tried saying that she should look at this site and that it's a battle with money even after uni. I still think she thinks a well paid job will fall in her lap and all will be solved.

Parents bail her out all the time. Guess she'll learn the hard way in time, just wish she'd learn from my situation not do the same.

I know exactly how you feel as my sister is exactly the same. I also wish that she would learn from my mistakes but she treats the word "budgeting" as a dirty word.

She says that she deserves to have a good time while she's at uni and doesn't seem to understand that you can still have a good time just by making better choices.

At least she doesn't have a credit card - that would be a disaster!
What did I do at work before I discovered MSE?!

DFD - WAS: a while ago

NOW - not sure, due to boyfriend going back to uni for masters and now pgce. Worth it in the long run!
Proud to be dealing with my debts!

People roll their eyes at me when I mention MSE, that is until I get something free/cheap, then they want to know all about it, ie boots change one thing I had them flocking to the nearest store, unfortunatly boots had removed the leaftlets by then....If only they had listened to me sooner....... :p

Thats it! Shes exactly the same. Only she does have a credit card and overdraft etc etc.

The problem is also that she spends money not just on having fun in the pub etc, but she buys herself the latest clothes and expensive presents etc.

I know she thinks I'm patronising her. Can't win.

Exactly :0) - I have got lots of colleagues freebies in the past from using this site, and also my flatmate 50 free digital photos printed - they all laugh at me, but I dont mind!! Perhaps I should charge commission :0)
  • I realized after boring the pants off one friend about "bargains" that:-
    a) her eyes had glazed over :o , and
    b) she now thinks Im either really tight or really poor, or perhaps even both!!!!

(Was only telling her 'cos I thought she'd be interested, she is obviously a moneysaver herself)

Decided to keep my trap shut from now on :D .
