hi everyone!
i am constantly on this site, getting new ideas for the way i manage my money and how to put it to better use.
some of my (in massive debt and dont care) friends think im totally crackers and overly obsessed with money, to the point where im sure they avoid me sometimes lol.
other friends think its cool and have asked my help to sort their money out of which i am only to happy to do and spread the MSE gospel!
i must admit that i find it a challenge helping my mates with things...i really like sorting other peoples budgets out he he.
do your friends call on you in times of financial need for your MSE knowhow or do you drive them comotose with your money mutterings?

I find that some people, friends or otherwise, some can be totally thrilled at getting the info about MSE and others couldn't really care less. They may have huge debts etc but until they wake up and smell the coffee they really aren't interested which is ashame. I too like to help people out with their money/budgets etc, find it a challenge like yourself. It's nice to help and the majority of people I have told about MSE are chuffed. Good on you for helping your mates out with their budgets. I wish I'd known about MSE when I first separated, would have helped me out loads. Although, I must admit it was good I got cheap phonecalls through my orange phone at the time, before I got landline put in. I always thought I was reasonably savvy with my cash until I came across MSE. I've saved a fortune, made a few quid too and it's great to set yourself targets each week to see what you can set aside or where you can get the next bargain. I'd be lost without it. Cheers everyone. :-)“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

I have the same problem but I bore my OH and my eldest who's 7 I even said to him to put the computer on for me the other day and he did and scrolled down the address and said 'i've put that site on for you'.
But I'm going to teach all my children about money etc so they never fall into the same trap as me.cc debt ( end dec 05) 6485 :eek:

I wouldn't say boring your friends etc, more like EDUCATE THEM TO SAVE MONEY, nothing wrong with that. If they don't wish to take the opportunity then that is up to them. I just HATE to see people chucking money away that they don't need to, you just want to shake them. Even people I don't know, if they go to buy something and you know it's available somewhere else for cheaper, exactly the same thing, and they don't take up the offer of the FREE info, I mean what is it with people. As Woody Allen said, Are you crazy????!!!
Like my brother for example, money to burn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He doesn't have debt, exactly the opposite but I just wish he would make his money work harder for him instead of it sitting in stupid accounts with sod all interest. I could shake the living daylights out of him, the banks just rub their hands with glee with him as a customer. I even bought The Money Diet as a Christmas present and he just pokes fun at me about it. It makes me soooooo mad :mad: :mad: Hulk moment coming around.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. but its mainly about this wonderful site and how brillant Martin's advice is!
One thing I would love to know is why I can pass on the advice I get off this site about saving money on utility bills to my mum but she won't take a blind bit of notice until she hears the same words coming from Martin himself!2014 Target;

Yep, my hubby is driven crazy by this site...but he does know it is for his own good. I share an office with staff who are in their first two years of work and try to pass on the benefit of my wisdom...like just trying to get more for your money. But usually I get met with blank stares, or statements about life is for living (oh, I remember the days when I felt like that too...).0

Well done on another great thread! I have just spend the best part of 2 hours composing an email to my OH to try and get him to mend his ways! I started off angry, then worried it would just get his back up and therefore fall on deaf ears, then ended up trying to say in a very nice way 'get your bloody act together and think think think' :mad:
Problem is he came into a lump sum a while ago (compensation for a long faught constructive dismisal case) and we agreed that as he now works part time for a financial services co, he should pay off his debts and as I could no longer afford my repayments, would do a DMP. Fine.... exept he didn't cancel the cards and has been spending on them again :mad: :mad:
I know what you all mean when you mention other people won't listen but living with a person who's had to set up a DMP you would think something would rub off wouldn't you?:wall:
Anyway off to smash a few plates othewise it would be his head!£16,500 in debt.
New debt free date: 2015 (was 2046!!).
Thanks MSE for helping me budget and therefore increase payments from £30 per month to £1500 -
