dont get hurt by drain pipes

IS you home built between 1960-1980?

You will probably have pitch fibre drain pipes

these are now beyond their useful life and are collapsing and cost £000's to repair

AND your home insurance company probably wont cover you

MORETH>N certainly wont

DO NOT INSURE YOUR HOME WITH MORETH>N

I DID AND NOW FACE A HUGE BILL FOR REPLACING SOMETHING I COULD NOT HAVE FORSEEN OR PREVENTED

I am now researching a better company to insure with

DONT USE MORETH>N

I'm guessing you didn't maintain your home correctly. House insurance isn't a maintenance contract.

There is noithing wrong with the Insurers, None of them will cover wear & tear or maintenance.
House Insurance cover certain perils only and these are cleary stated in your policy.
They will not cover any item that has come to the end of its life span.

You are correct, house insurance isn't a maintenance contract but how does a householder maintain drain pipes which are buried in the ground?

More Than, depending on their policy wording will often accept the claim on appeal. Follow the formal complaints process in their policy wording and then on to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Its not just More Than that can be a problem see

As regards "wear and tear" the Financial Ombudsman states that Insurers have to dmonstrate that the provision was adequately brought to the policyholder's attention and further that if the pipes have failed as a result of ordinary usage then they are unlikely to be presuaded that this is suffcient to establish that the failure arose as a result of wear and tear.

Thomas Crown hits the nail on the head.

The problems with pitch fibre pipes are well known to Insurers but are not well known to the average policyholder. What should the policyholder have done to " maintain your home correctly"?????

Direct Line, Norwich Union/ Aviva, Hiscox, Churchill, Co-Op Insurance, NFU Mutual, Ecclesiastical, Fortis all generally deal with accidental damage to pitch fibre pipes without creating an issue ( it does vary with some policies, but as a rule of thumb).

More Than often will overturn their repudiation on appeal.

Beware Halifax General Insurance / Sainsburys Bank, Lloyds TSB, Allianz Cornhill, AXA Insurance and in some instances Zurich Insurance -all of whom now attempt to repudiate accidental damage to pitch fibre pipes.

In the same way that they are expected to maintain interior pipes that are not visible?

How do you maintain internal pipes that are not visible???

Bear in mind the Financial Ombudsman Service does not agree with your view - problems with pipes of pitch are well known to Insurers but are not well known to the average policyholder.

Presumably a blind policyholder shouldn't have to do any maintenance then?

Erm it was you who said that a policyholder is expected to maintain interior pipes that are not visible. All I asked you was how are they expected to do that? Do you have an answer?
