Strange buzzing noise on windows media player

I wonder if anyone can help... (I have WMP 11, on Vista)

Just recently when I use Windows media player, there is a strange buzzing kinda noise (almost like interference) on most of the videos I play. MP3's seem to play fine, but when I use the player to watch a DVD or to watch a video from my Canon FS100 camcorder, this buzzing noise happens.

These same video files, when played in other media players (eg VLC player) work fine, and have no buzzing at all.

Bizarrely, when I tried to watch a video file that was downloaded off the net, and also one that was recorded from my Canon IXUS 40 digital camera on windows media player, it works fine with no buzzing.

Can anyone help please. I downloaded Vista SP1 recently. Could it be to do with that? I remember a message came up before I downloaded it that some sound devices might not work, but I don't really know what to do. (Having checked WMP, it says it is the latest version etc with no updates available).

    bump.... anyone??
  • I have the same exact problem, so please keep on bumping!

Playing a DVD in WMP11 gives noisy, crackling sound (and LOUD at that)

Playing a DVD in KMP gives me washed out colors

Playing a DVD in MPClassic for some reason just won't work.

It's a bit frustrating sitting here with this brand new (and expensive) computer, and then this problem suddenly appears =P So please, please help!
  • I got it working today =)

I bought and installed a sound card (asus xonar d2) as opposed to running the sound through the integrated card.

Just curious, have you recently installed Vista SP1?

I'm not keen on buying a sound card to resolve this.
  • I have SP1, yes, but I didn't install it recently, so it shouldn't be that. "Shouldn't" is never the same as "couldn't" though of course.
