Online application for Post Office credit card

Here's a thought - just applied online for a Post Office credit card and they couldn't agree to the application straight away; said they would have to write to me. I immediately cancelled the application and didn't tick the final checkboxes. However, I assume by this point they will have carried out some checks, possibly including a CRA check, which will then be recorded, and might go against me.

So - maybe it wasn't me that applied! (hypothetical). Maybe it was someone who knows me (and knows enough about me) and who wants to screw up my credit rating. What safegurards are there to stop this sort of thing happening - if any?

  • Why did you cancelled the application?

Needed the card right away with minimum delay - going abroad. PO card gives commission free use, Might just have to use cash instead.

Call them up. They'll answer all your questions.

  • To get the point in the application where they advise you that they can not make an immediate decision is after the point where you have submitted your application and agreed to them performing the checks.... you will have ticked boxes...

Presumably then, the answer to my original question is "none".
