Is it possible to recover an unsaved Word document/weird Hotmail experience?

I cannot believe my own stupidity (so please don't tell me I should have saved as I do realise this now) but last night I composed a long and detailed email using MS Word (in order to get full spell/grammar check) and then copied and pasted it into an email which I sent (or thought I did) from my Hotmail account. I didn't bother to save the Word document as I assumed I could retrieve the email in my 'sent' box if I needed it. However, this morning I find that the mail is not in my sent box and the person I thought I'd sent it to didn't get it! Goodness only knows what I've done. Is it possible to retrieve it somehow?

I hate hotmail so never use it.... but google mail is great!

It's got an "auto save draft" feature... basically when your writting an email... it saves it every 3 mins..

Does hotmail have that?

I doubt if you will see that document again now as it was not saved but for the future why not use an e-mail client e.g. Outlook Express, Thunderbird etc. and then at least all of your e-mails would be stored on your computer.

Details for Hotmail setup:
POP3 server: pop3.live.com
POP3 SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@hotmail.com
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes

I don't think so... at least, I just went to look and couldn't see anything about an autosave draft. You can save a draft at any time (which I actually did for the first part of my mail, before I decided it would be quicker and easier to use Word). I also have 'saved sent' checked and usually this happens correctly. Thanks anyway.

• You could try a search for the file in Start | search using the following

*.tmp
*.asd
*.wbk
*.doc
and use the date parameter as to when it was created
Try using recuva (freeware) using the same searches

Also have a look in C:\Documents and Settings\*USERNAME*\Local Settings\Temp

Sorry to be so thick but, I've just started using Vista and whereas i knew exactly how to do a search with parameters in XP I cannot for the life of me see how to do this in Vista! I can do a basic start/search but cannot figure how to put in parameters :(

Arrrgggggrrr I just tried that and got 'documents and settings is not accessible, access denied'. I am the administrator on this computer (my home PC) so I have no idea why it is denying me access!
