hi in oct 2006 i bought a sofa from dfs on credit, the loan was with ge money.
payments started on the sofa when it was delivered to my new address in febuary 2007 payments were 99.80 per month, i havent had any statements regarding the loan and as i new it was coming to an end i called to see how many payments were left to make, i found i should have been paying £88 per month, puzzled i dug out the contract and found that there was £11.09 in the ppi box, now i new i had not agreed to ppi as at the time i was in the army and ppi was usless to me as i couldnt be made redundant and still got paid if i was taken ill which i remember saying to the sales person.
i wrote to ge money explaining just that and recieved a letter today with a copy of their contract saying i had ticked the box and i should take it up with dfs if i wasnt happy.
i have looked through their copy of the contract and there is one differance between the two theirs has an x and the date 22 next to the ppi box mine dosent. it was wrote on carbon paper so why isnt it on my copy? any ideas.
i believe the box was ticked after i had signed it, i never had the forms in my hand at all, the sales person filled them out and took them with her after i had signed to see if i was acepted for credit i was given my copy when she returned, i didnt think to look at it as i had already signed.
could i have your thoughts on this and how do you think i should go about trying to get my money back.
thanks in advance

Don't bother going to the finance company - go direct to DFS, It may take a couple of letters but hopefully you should get your money back.
Send all letters recorded delivery, they usually ring you after the first letter & say no way, ask for this in writing & then write to the Chief Executive stating your case, they rang me within 24 hours to tell me that they were repaying my PPI as a goodwill gesture.0 -
got this letter from dfs today.
i am wrighting to you to acknoledge the query that you have raised concerning the ppi on your order.
i will endeveavour to resolve this matter, to you satisfaction, as a matter of urgency through our complaint procedure as detailed below.
In the rare instance that a customer has a query or compliant with ppi all of our stores are instructed to send details of the order to head office so that we can assist in resolving the matter. should you remain unhappy you can escalate your complaint to the group retail controller, andrew tweedale, who can be contacted by writing to the address above.
furthermore if you still remain dissatisfied you can refer the matter to the financial ombusman service which must be done within 6 months.
by way of our final responce and to resolve the matter for you i would like to offer to remove the payment protection plan from your finance account. in order to do this you would need to vist our darlington store and we will rewrite your finance agreement for you. once a new agreement is approved the original one will be cancelled and all payments made will be refunded by the finance company.
i trust this meets your approval and would ask that you make contact with me so that i can make the necessary arrangments.
what the f**ck, i have to make a new agreement to get get my old one canceled and money returned, i dont get why this needs to be done, could someone explain.
plus i dont even live in darlington anymore im in cheshire so its a bit of a trip lol?0 -
oh i also wrote to them about there dogey 5yr anti stain insurance, which the sales assistant said was a scotchguard-like coating on the couch, and that it would be totaly recovered if a stain did occur (bullsh*t basicly)
havent had any mention of this money being returned to me, should i push them for it, i think (this being their first reply), they have accepted that the contract was tampered with.0
