That is very decent of them really, but what do you do with funds if you bring them back into the UK, the interest rates stink. Think I will ride it out and, hopefully, collect the full interest and my capital back at the end of the fixed rate term.

They don't seem to mention whether the standard interest penalties would still apply. They must have got tired of hearing about all those "emergencies" people are suddenly having. ;)

Exactly, so many people must have contacted them giving lame excuses. Do you think there will now be a grand exodus from Anglo Irish?

I think most people who would want to bail out on Anglo would have done so already.

Not with that level of publicity! It's a bit odd - as it's a fundamental decision - that it hasn't hit any of the main News outlets?

I know it's a weekend .... but other than the Chinese PM visit / last day for filing your SA Return / Lampard getting a red card and the fact it's pretty cold out there - they're not exactly being mown out with news.

There was an article in todays Sunday Times where someone had convinced the bank that they should return his bond money penalty free as they were signed up to the uk compensation scheme when he deposited it but had now withdrawn. Personally I am going to leave my two bonds in there as there is no way we can get that sort of interest rate now.
  • Hi peeps,
Just to let you know that I decided to exit Anglo-Irish after rolling over a 1yr. Bond on Jan. 1st as a result of not being told of the changes in their compensation scheme (see above). I drafted a letter to this effect, asking for repayment and today I got the full sum back with one month's interest without difficulty. It seems anyone wanting to get out can easily do so - so I expect deposits are safe even though I want to invest somewhere else within the FSA scheme. I don't think there will be a run, but I'm more confident about the UK scheme. This is a considered decision - others may sensibly disagree.
    Best.

And still? I know the snow and the Chinese PM has most of the headlines today - but you would think this little slice of Anglo Irish relations would have made a few electronic column inches?

I have a one year bond with anglo due to mature soon, I tried to get the money out but they won't allow it unless its a emergency and subject to their terms and conditions all cases reviewed on a one to one basis.

So I'll let it stay in until it matures in a mth's times then I'm away from them
