Hi
Can anyone help me - my friend has given me a sky digi box, mine is ancient so i connected it all up and put my sky card in but it just says not satellie signal being received. I went onto services and checked system set-up and it says there is no card in it - do I have to call sky and register the new box with them or is there something I can do - any help and advice greatly appreciated

In the earlier days of Sky we had the entertainment package which didn't include the movies or sports. My mum had the whole complete package and when she went on holiday I could borrow her card and use it in my sky box successfully! However, I tried it again a couple of years ago and it won't work. The boxes seem to know what card you have inserted. Im no expert but I would think you have to ring Sky. I have seen Sky viewing cards for sale on Ebay though. I don't know if these would work?0

call up sky. this card wont work with any sky box. it has to match the serial number of both. sky will charge you for the new sky freeview card. previously the sky cards were issued by bbc so were free but not anymore.0

Nope, these wouldn't work because they have come from someone else's Sky box and no other sky box will match the serial number.I have seen Sky viewing cards for sale on Ebay though. I don't know if these would work?
You will need to obtain a new Sky card from Sky to fix your problem of the box changeover. Also, you did switch off your old sky box's electrical power input before disconnecting the LNB (the cable to the satellite dish) if you didn't you might have broken the LNB on your satellite dish - that's the part that gets the signal from the metal frame and sends it down the wires to your Sky box.Can anyone help me - my friend has given me a sky digi box, mine is ancient so i connected it all up and put my sky card in but it just says not satellie signal being received. Just phone up sky tell them you have a new box, they will ask for the number of the sky card and the serial number of the box which you can find in the services menu then they will marr that card to the new box, wait for the info to be sent down the satellite and hey presto you now have sky again. No need to buy a new card only need the old card to be registered to the new box.
Customer servicesshould be able to talk you through the whole process and i have never had a problem doing it

Wagster is right - the other posters have obviously got the wrong end of the stick. I gave my brother my old digibox (which is still alot newer than his) and all he had to do was phone sky and tell them and they sort out the stuff for you - there is NO CHARGES to pay and will be sorted out whilst you are on the phone.

remove the card then unplug the box from the mains. next when pressing the backup button on the box reconnect the satellite box to the mains supply wait till all the lights come on on the box (no more than 1 minute) stop pressing the button. wait till the lights go out. switch on the box again put in your card and with any luck it may work.
Any working Sky card will work in any box except for the movie and sport channels. that is why they are sold on Ebay for our continental and irish friends who have no other way of accessing CH4 and CH5Something Really Interesting0
