rebuilding cost

in Insurance & life assurance
My buildings and contents insurance is up for renewel soon but I always struggle when they ask me the cost of rebuilding my home. I have no idea
How do I find this out???
I have looked on all my mortgage details but it doesn't say how much. I could phone my mortgage company but is there not an easier way to find out???

    Not a scientific way but what is the cost of buying the plot of land your house is on and deduct this from the valuation.

    You can go to the BCIS website and use their rebuilding cost calculator. You have to register with them first, but it's free and done just to stop you using the thing hundreds of times (some loss adjusters were using it, so the BCIS decided to make some money out of it!!).

    I have noticed while searching for home insurance recently that most of the home insurance companies offer a standard rebuild rate of up to £1,000,000. This might help if you cannot find out easily.
