Reducing protein in dogs diet

  • Can I ask what breed/age this dog is and whether or not she is neutered?

Protien in food is not necessairly linked to nervousness/anxiety.

What I would do, if she was mine, is to add some Rescue Remedy to the water bowl, and have a couple of DAP defusers on in and around the home. I would work out what it is that is causing her nerviousness/anxiousness, and then try to cure the problem.
Do you know what she is nervous of and why she is anxious?

She is a border collie/retriever/spanial x 4 yrs old and has been neutered. We have had her 7 months. She was fine with other dogs until we put her in kennels while on holiday last year, she only slept their. When she came home she started growling at other dogs. Saw the vet and physically ok, advised DAP collar and muzzle off lead if neccessary. Within a few weeks she was fine and happy with most other dogs although if we did not know a particular dog she was put back on her lead. On new years day while off lead she was bitten by another dog who was on a lead. Since then she has been awful with other dogs growling as soon as they come anywhere near her. She also was barking more any noises she heard. She also has a very sensitive tummy. She has been seen by the vet again and she feels that we are doing nothing wrong, she is just very anxious and sound sensitive. She suggested reducing her protein, increasing her carbs and zyklene and continue with the DAP collar. It has been 2 weeks and she is much better at home and in the car but still very anxious near other dogs. I think it will be a long and slow progress this time but we are working on it. We have the option to try some drugs if things get worse. To be honest she is quite happy to be walked on the lead a present, we let her off lead if she is muzzled but she still is growling at other dogs even those who are no threat to her. In fact several dog have recently been attacked by other dogs in the area we walk her, even dogs who have been on leads. I usually go at a time which is fairly quiet.
  • oh, what a shame - sounds like the collie side of her nature is coming through - they are suck intelligent and highly strung dogs.

I noticed the other day that CSJ do some dog herbal mixes including one called 'calm down' - I have no idea if it works but if you want to have a look its here - http://www.csjk9.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=3&idcategory=3#details

Do you know a nice steady non-reactive dog you could walk her with to help her get over her nerves?
