Hmmmmm, lovely sunny day and they lived happy ever after:rotfl:0 -
Just caught the second half of this programme, very interesting, strange how the parallels to today are there for all to see eh? I enjoyed it very much wish I caught the entire thing nowI always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...0

At least they had a sense of humour back then. They had the Great Crash, the Great War, the Great Fire of London. We were even known as Great Britain.0

You can also watch it again on TV later in the week: BBC 2, Weds 28 Jan 2009, 23:20 hrs0

Really good programme, so like what's going on today. And who seems to have caused the problems ? The banks, the big boys playing the markets.
What about the Roosevelt speach promising to put in controls to stop the money men from causing the same thing again, well what happend there, the bankers soon got control back.
What's really scary, the depression lasted 10yrs and the way we created the demand to get out of it.......have a world war !!
Will that be the only way we can come out of the current depression ?Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I found this programme really interesting as I am currently doing my dissertation on the similarities between the factors causing the 1929 crash and the current crisis. It is scary how similar the situations are.
I jus wondered if anyone here was able to point me in the right direction... I am comparing GDP in the 20s to GDP over the past few years. Also managed to get figures for gross domestic debt in the 20s to compare with now. I also need to compare house/real estate prices in the 20s to house prices now and I have spent days trying to find house price data in the 20s for either the USA of or the UK and I can't find anything anywhere. Any ideas?
Id be so grateful for any help! It's really stressing me out!:eek:Thank you to all posters :A0 -
Nope, you've realised that you've actually just become your parents......
Other indicators.....
All the music on Radio 1 sounds the same and just a bit of a "racket".
All the music you like is now being played by Radio 2.
When you do actually get the pub you say..."You know what, I actually just fancy a Tea/Coffee thanks".
It's a slippery slope I'm afraid.
Worse: I only ever listen to radio 4 and I have started drinking real ale. AAAAAARRRGGGGHHHH.
I thought the program was quite interesting.0 -
And the quote re Groucho Marx, who asked how the prices could just keep going up and was told by his broker not to worry, "its a global economy now" :eek:0

I thought the point of being a student was to be able to research :Prabbit8587 wrote: »I found this programme really interesting as I am currently doing my dissertation on the similarities between the factors causing the 1929 crash and the current crisis. It is scary how similar the situations are.
