Staying in Travelodge York - where to leave luggage?

Options
Hi all,

Just a quickie - we are doing the above on 18th Feb just for a night and from past experience of Travelodges we are fully aware that you can't check in until after 3pm and they don't provide a left luggage facility (well for £9 a room I suppose I can't grumble!)

As we are travelling by train we obviously can't leave luggage in the boot of the car! But we don't really want to be wandering around shops and stuff with a holdall until 3pm - might look a bit fishy these days!

So, any advice or places where we might be able to stash it cheaply? There is obviously the train station, which I'm looking into, but that will prob be about £6, which is a bit steep as it will only be for about 4 hours.

When we stayed at Travelodge in Chester last year we left our gear at the local Backpackers Hostel for £2 a day! All safe and secure and well recommended, however, the one in York is closed for a refurb!

Any tips folks? Thanks! :)

  • Take it to the police station as lost property in the morning, then send your OH to re-claim it later :D

You could try a couple of guest houses or hotels, I'm sure one of them would store it somewhere for a marginal cost.

I've just spent the last 5 days in York Central Travelodge at £9 per night, excellent value.:D

I've two tips for you. First regarding the luggage, a 2 minute walk from York train station is the National Railway Museum. They have luggage lockers there which will take a holdall comfortably for just £1 - make sure you have £1 in change because the museum shop has a sign saying 'no change given'. Entrance to the museum is free, walk through the shop at the entrance and the lockers are right in front of you. You then have the choice of shopping in York or visiting the museum. Gotta say I'd pick the museum because it really is excellent (and free!).

Second tip - Wetherspoons have a pub next door to the Travelodge, very handy for cheap food/drink but the smoking area outside can be a little noisy. When checking in, ask for a room which does not look onto the pub yard.

Hope you enjoy your stay, I had a great time.

Thanks very much all, especially Old Bill (welcome to MSE too!)

That is just what I'm after! I have actually been to York about 5 years ago and went to the museum, but do plan to go again so the lockers will be ideal!

As for Wethys.....I go home late on a Thursday. WETHY'S CURRY NIGHT!!!!! YAY!!! :rotlf:

    Thanks again!!! ;)

But as it'll be collected, your success rate will increase........ not that I'm saying the police like to massage their efficiency figures :p

The Travelodge here does a left luggage rate - Which is dead popular with the oilmen coming back onshore & hitting the bars.

I'm pretty certain that other city ones I've stayed in have offered the same.

Mind you, it will probably cost you more than your room, around £10 per 24hrs IIRC.

    Lockers

Lockers are available within the National Railway Museum museum. Cost: £1 per locker. Locker dimensions: 40cm deep, 24cm wide, 87cm tall.
Larger luggage can also be left at the Left Luggage office at York Railway Station.

Another tip is if you are going from the station to the Travelodge is get the number 10 bus which runs every half hour.
It stops just off Piccadilly and the TL is about 300 yards away.
