Saving for a baby

Ok so it's about 2-3 years before me and my boyfriend want to try for a baby but we would like to start putting by abit of money now. Say between £2-£5 a week to help with buying everything that we will need, and any money left over we will use to invest for the future of our little one. I was thinking of opening a building society account just for this purpose but i'm not quite sure where to start. I would like an account where you have to actually go into the branch and possible where the money is tied in to the account for 2 years or so (So i can't get at it for other things). Any advise would be appreciated.

Virgin CC=£2652, Next= [STRIKE]£102.88,[/STRIKE] Very=£475.60, Natwest=£800, Sainsburys CC=£1777.02, Lloyds CC=£498.29, Lloyds Loan= £13,946.18, Car=£4000Total = [STRIKE]£26,147.23[/STRIKE] £23,849.09:eek:

Take a look at Martins post for tax free savings accounts and Isa's for children..
Also when saving for a baby consider saving for salary loss whilst on leave for both you and OH. You may be entitled to maternity benefit for a while but will it cover your total living costswhilst you are off work and for how long?

You can't start saving for a child who does not yet exist!!! The post clearly states that they want to start a family in about 2-3 years but start putting some money now to cover the expenses. Before doing something... do nothing0
