Visa Electron advice, not sure where to put this?

Hi,

Just a quick question for people that know fianance,

Someone I know has paid for something by Visa electron, this has put there account overdrawn by a large amount, I thought you could only spend what you had in your account with Visa Electron.

The above was a misunderstanding, the company were not supposed to take the full amount only part payment, I am only intrested in the banks reaponsibility at this point, as it is a fairly complicated situation.

What I mean is, should the bank have allowed a Visa Electron transaction through that puts an account, that does not have an overdraft facility, just over £500 into the red.

They are now charging her £35 overdraft fee and also returned direct debit fees.

Any advice would be great.

I have a Visa Electron and I know I cannot make any purchases unless the funds are in my account - should I be trying to make a purchase £1.00 or £100 pound over my balance the bank still does not authorise it.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

write a letter to complain they might reimburse her the costs. I have electron and I can only spend what is in the account and no more, so bank is at fault

Could happen where there was a large payment (e.g. rent, loan payment, mortgage etc) was also going out of the account but hadn't yet been debited from the account when the large purchase was made. Things like rent are sometimes treated by banks as priority payments so are honoured even at the expense of putting you in the red, even on some accounts which don't have full status .

Nope she never had the full amount in her account at anytime, so should the transaction have been declined??
