Advice for safe parking in Cardiff for 3 days in feb ?

Hope to get some local advice, we have booked Cardiff central travelodge for 3 nights in feb, train prices are ridiculous, so will have to drive, and so need to park car for 3 days (won't use car round cardiff).
Reading up it seems NCP car parks are expensive, and not very safe (for car damage/theft) - can anyone suggest best way to deal with this, I don't mind parking a bit out from centre and walking/taxi back.
I've read that Knox Road car park is safe/secure, but can't find much info on web other than it seems to be open daytime only, so does anyone know if cars can be left there overnight, or if there is a better option.
Not sure how far out you need to take train for safe/cheap parking, but that could be an option.
Hope someone local can give me some pointers.
Thanks.

Go to Google Maps and then click 'Get directions'.
In the first (From) box put:
Cymmer Street Cardiff
In the second (To) Box put:
64-70 St. Mary St, Cardiff, South Glamorgan, CF10 1FA, United Kingdom (Travelodge)
In the drop down menu select 'Walking'
And click 'Get Directions'
You will now see a map that shows you how to walk (in ten minutes) from the Taff embankment to the City Centre where your hotel is.
I picked Cymmer Street, but the Taff Embankment or any side road down there is as safe as your average street, and is free. I didn't put Taff Embankment in the box because the top end is paid parking (the first two minutes of your walk). The bottom part overlooks the river and is free to park.
I always park here whenever I go into town and in eight years have never had a break in or car theft. As long as you don't have any valuables on display and park right under a street light if you can, you should be ok.
There are also two 24 hour multi storey car parks right near your hotel (you can see the cars on the roof of them, if you zoom in!) One is at Central Square opposite the train station, and the other is on Quay Street, just off St Mary's Street, further up the north end. But again, even with cameras, thieves operate if you leave stuff on display.
Good luck and enjoy your stay in Cardiff.Look at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?0 -
