King's Cross Taxi Tip
I often travel into King's Cross and see long queues of people waiting for Taxis. When a taxi departs it has to do a "round the houses" route to get back to the Euston Road which is the gateway to most destinations.
So the tip is to ignore the taxi rank on Platform 1, leave the station and cross the main road via the traffic lights to your left. You should be near Bus Stop R.
There will then be many taxis coming past which are available for hire (if you're not used to London taxis they are free if the orange "Taxi" light is illuminated). Just flag one down there and you will already be going in the right direction for the West End etc. Even if you want the City the taxi can just turn round at the lights.
This will save you up to an hour in the initial wait plus the trafficy taxi route round the back of the station. You may also save up to £5 in fares; I've known it to take 20mins from the taxi rank back round to Euston Road!
