Electricity bill help

Well I have checked on the website and for Nottingham it seems the cheaper rates are between 11.30pm and 8.30am. I always thought that economy 7 meant only 7 hours of cheaper rates, or am I incorrect there?0

Just a thought, is Nottingham in the East Mids region. If so then the times as switched by the radio signal are 1.0 am until 8.0 am. Iused to be on E7 in east mids.0 -

Yeah East Mids should be the catergory we fall into, I will start to put my alarm on and manually switch the boiler on from these times then! Thank you for that.
Considering everything I will do electric wise (TV, PC, cooking, heating etc) will be used during the day after 5pm and the only real things I would use after 1am would be washing mashine on timed and the boiler. Would I actually be using economy 7 to it's fullest or could I benefit from switching to a standard rate? Many thanks0 -

I am not familiar with your type of heating so cannot comment. However if you take regular meter readings to see how many kwh you use on the night rate and compare to the total used that will give you an idea, you could even check old bills to get this figure.
If you r night use is below 30% of total I doubt you are making it pay, you may even need upwards of40%.0 -

From the Elson www site the Coral E is a thermal store for supplying the hot water to your sinks bath shower etc.
If it has been installed correctly then the thermal store will only use off peak electricity switched and controlled by the meter. This should adequately supply all you hot water as the Heatwise on periods are for 10 Hrs daily; during afternoon, evening and early morning periods The on periods are controlled normally by e on themselves by radio control direct to the meter. There will be an isolation switch adjacent to the boiler but this should be left on for the unit to work efficiently
However there is a BOOST switch facility on the Coral E which must only be controlled by a “run back timerswitch” ie a timed switch normally on for 1 hr max and it will ONLY use on-peak electricity. It is installed for use should you run out of hot water. This should be clearly marked as boost.
If inadvertently this boost is used at any time day or night , then you will be charged at the peak tariff rate.
The current e on heatwise tariff is Boost units 13.58p kWh heatwise 6.05p kWh
I obviously do not know your particular set up but I wondered if you are using the boost switch to control the Coral which will inflate your bills. In particular if the runback switch has been replaced or fitted with a normal switch then your bills will be high.
I have been on Heatwise for around 25 years and if used correctly I believe it is one of the most cost effective all electric tariffs available.0 -
Hi guys, I live in a small one bedroom apartment with my girlfriend and we only have electric appliances (no gas at all). Our recent quarter bill with E-on was £230.42 which is surely way over the top!
I am a bit unsure of what tariff to be on so just wanted some people in the know to point me in the right direction! We have an Elson Coral E boiler which we use to heat up the water which I turn on at midnight and turn off first thing every morning as for some reason I can't seem to get it to only click on for off peak rates
Other than that I can't see anything which would cause a large bill, so I assume it's the boiler we are being hammered on.
So what tariff would you suggest I use and which payment method (I don't really like DD in case they undercharge and get stung after the year is up) as I have had a look on uSwitch and it still comes up as £650~ a year which I still think is pretty high at £50 a month, or is that reasonable?
Many thanks in advance
My boyfriend and I live in a one bedroom flat on economy 7 with elec only. We're very careful with elec and out during the day monday to sat. we pay £75 each month so your bill is pretty low!0 -

I think your bill is high!! We are two in a two bedroom all electric flat with E7 and our last quarterly bill was £101. We both work shifts so we aren't home at the same times.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
really? do you have night storage heaters on at night? We have two on during off peak hours... maybe i should check when the economy 7 cheap rate kicks in to check the timing is right on my meter? also, what quarter are you refering to? from march to sep our quarterly bills are just over one hundred, but with the night storage heater on in the winter months, our quarterly bills are about £350...0
