Cancelled car insurance policy

When I got rid of my car 7 years ago I naively stopped the standing order to the insurance company not realizing the implications of having a cancelled insurance policy in my history. Now I can't even remember the name of the insurance company. I need to know if this will effect my ability to hire a car in the future and what problems will come up if I try to get insurance again.

I shouldn't think it would have any effect at all. I've had insurance policies cancelled in the past as I cancelled the direct debits and have gone on to get insurance elsewhere and hire cars.

If an insurance company has cancelled a policy as you have failed to pay the monthly premiums, you must declare this to other insurance companies.

When you get a new quote a company will ask have you or any of the drivers named on the policy ever had an insurance policy cancelled, refused or special terms imposed. To this question you need to answer yes.
