I downloaded SP2 for XP & now I can't get Windows Media Player.
Everything seems to be there, shortcut & folder but when I try it to install it says I have the latest one.
I did a new download & it lets me get through to the final 'finish' button then says it hasn't installed

Have you tried uninstalling and then re-installing Media Player?0

Media Player doesn't appear in 'add/remove'
It shows up as a programme when I right click & explore.
I've tried to delete it but it says it is being used.
When I try the shortcut it says Media player not installed, would I like to download.
Is there another way to uninstall0 -
Have a look at the following microsoft help pages regarding media player, should be something relevant to your problem:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10/troubleshooting.aspx0 -
Thanks for the link, tried it but no luck.
I've looked in Tools & it says...
Advanced System Information- Error log
The system can't find the file specified
In the Event Viewer it says...
Application error 1000. Faulting Application setup-wm.exe.version 10.0.0.3646 faulting module wmp.dll.version 9.0.0.3250 fault address 0X0001f7bf.
I can see I have 2 versions of media player but no luck in uninstalling
Any help would be appreciated0 -

Hallo Chippy Minton
I did what you said & was able to delete it.
Iwent to windows update & did a scan which said I needed to download MP10. I did & after it had installed a message said... This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatable with this version of Windows. The same thing happened when I downloaded version 9..
Before this problem started I was using MP10 with no trouble.0 -
Try this:Navigate to C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 and copy wmploc.dll to C:\Windows\System32. Now, run the WMP 10 installer again and see what you get.0

Morning Chippy
Realised in the middle of the night I hadn't done an 'ok' when I copied the file. So I was up early & did it again.
Guess what it worked !
A big thank you for helping me0
