What store card do you want to get? And why?
If your credit rating is not too good, due to debt or whatever, a store card won't help matters. It is important to realise that interest rates on store cards are generally much higher than on credit cards – typically 29.9% upwards as opposed to approx. 18% for many credit cards.
If you are already in debt, then I wouldn't advise buying purchases you can't afford on a store card with extortionate rates of interest. You would need to pay the card off in full every month to avoid getting into further and more unmanageable debt.

I got my first SC from New Look not long after I turned 18 with no problem. And now I have one for Burtons, D Perkins, Monsoon, Evans and Ikea. (Not that I send on them, I take one out when I need the bigger discount that they give for opening an account):j Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus :j0

If you are going to pay in full and on time every month, I can see no reason why you shouldn't have one.
Re. the ease of getting one, I applied for a House of Fraser store card a few years ago and got one there and then on the spot with a £1000 credit limit. I use it every so often, always pay in full and have had no problems with it.
I was just advising caution as I understand people CAN run into problems with them – well with any kind of credit really!

Why do you have no credit history? Is it because you are 18 or because you're not on the electoral role? For pretty much all types of credit, you need to be on the electoral role...If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
Some stores can be funny about giving people cards. I had a perfect credit history, no mortgage, always paid cards in full etc etc, but the now-defunct Allders refused me a card because I was self employed. I offered proof of income but they still refused.0

am no 18 and am on the electoral role 4 just 3 mounths. the reason i havent got credit history is i never borrow anything, and i only got 1 credit card 4 4mounths.
