You need to contact who you are intending to switch to. More often than not they will be able to arrange the swap process for you, but to be safe make sure you contact your current host aswell.War does not decide who is right, It decides who is left.0

Go to the website of the hosting provider you would like to go with
Use the website's search or help section (You should look for phrasing such as 'Transfer With Us' 'Bring Your Domain Over')
Every hosting provider has their own username which is called a TAG.
If you are with 123-reg for hosting for example their tag would be 123-REG. These vary with company names, you shouldn't guess tag names.
Go to the new hosting company's website, find out what their tag is, once found go to your current hosting company or domain company and find the section on how to transfer your domain to another company.
This usually takes 24-48 hours.Happy New Year!

When I left my old ISP, they detagged my domain name automatically.
This enabled me to transfer it to RelicHost very easily.
You will also need to let Nominet know as well, although I cannot remember the whole procedure at the moment, it was quite straightforward.0
