Please help with a will

While busily putting my money into savings, a thought come cross my mind about what would happen if I die (morbid I know).
I have a estranged husband, to whom I was married to for all of 10 months, 10 years ago. I have had serious problems getting a divorce from him, and am still legally married to him (as he keeps running away).
Now, is it possible for me to write a will that states that a) at the time of death, if my mother is still alive, then all my money should go to her, and b) if she is no longer around, then for the money to go to a specific charity? Basically, I don't want him getting a penny if I can avoid it.
Please advice me on whether this is possible, and if there are any other ways to avoid him getting his mitts on. For information, I did not have any of these money when we were "married" (living together).
Thank you for any advice you can give

There are some packs that you can buy available at stationary stores like WHSmith and Staples.Happy New Year!

Yes, what you said you want is perfectly possible. You can get the packs mentioned above but if, as it seems from your OP, you want it to be alsolutely watertight, you should get a solicitor to write it up properly for you.0

Thank you both, yes I am booking an appointment with the solicitors next week, and I wanted to know (before I got spend money on solicitors) that this was actually possible.
Is there anything else I should have prepared before going to a solicitor?
many thank yous, I've never even contemplated a will before!!0 -
Yes - think about who would appoint as executors. The solicitors will offer, but will charge a fee taken out of your estate. That might not be a bad idea, but you need to fully understand how the fee would be calculated.
BTW, it's not morbid as we all die, one day. In many cases it borders on irresponsibility to NOT make a will as you leave difficult decisions to your relatives.
In your case, it's madness as your (not yet ex) husband would get a sizeable chunk under the intestacy laws :eek:Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

Yes, I (now) have an executor for the will and am writing down the addresses of charities I would like the money to go to.
Thank you
