Hiya
im browsing the internet at the monent and found a fantastic internship opportunity in the USA. It pays a small stipend.( $500 every 16 weeks)
Does anyone know if UK citizens can do a US internship legally?

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I know at my uni you can but they don't suggest it because of the poor pay (a lot of students over there are expected to work for free..... HA! :rotfl: like I would ever do that!), but I know you can get greencards for temp work.
Not sure how you would go about getting one though....0 -
Im not actually at uni at the moment, and would happily work for nothing ( did I really say that on here ssssh)
I just feel like having a new challenge - and working in California for 6months would be a dream come true...... Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

It depends entirely on the company offering the internship. You can't just turn up and do it (you need a visa) but if the company concerned is willing to sponsor you for a visa then there's no reason why you can't do it. Generally speaking it's a hassle, and I expect there's a similar rule to here (where for companies to accept Americans they have to prove it's something they can't get a European to do), but there's no harm in asking. Good luck!0

The above is true. For a government body you must be an American citizen, ie. applying for National Park Service/US Geological Survey etc. or whatever floats your boat. Otherwise if nothing is stated on the application form about nationality then you should be ok so long as you get the visa.

here it is( hope my boss isnt watching

Doenst look like a government body, seems to be NGO. I work in property management at the moment, and would love the change:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

You'll need a visa for that, and IIRC the "employer" will have to apply for it. Given that the start date is in about two weeks, I think that's unlikely to be doable.0

I reckon you should apply anyway; what's the worst that can happen? I'm kinda in the same boat applying for internships both here and abroad. Best of luck!:beer:0

Most companies offering graduate/intern positions in the UK make a point of specifying that they won't accept non-EU/EEA citizens as they don't have the right licences to support visas, and I've seen similar notices in the US too. Given that this 'company' doesn't explicitly say you can't, and more importantly since you seem to have relevant experience (which is very important as it's pretty much the only thing companies can use to get round visa rules), I'd write them an email asking if they'd be willing to sponsor a visa application for you. Hey, what have you got to lose?0
