  • 6 month bond rates at present are lousy, (3.70% at best) so at present ING Direct with 12 month bonus is your best bet at 3.90% with its intro bonus.
If the money has to be no risk then that is your only choice, otherwise how about Barclays shares :D

Investec has a averaged variable rate http://www.investechigh5.co.uk/
and if you are over 65
    http://www.westbrom.co.uk/westbrom/savings.product?id=4255
    Nothing to see here

For a good interest rate, try Investec’s High 5 account.
    www.investec.com/UnitedKingdom/PrivateBank/BankingandTreasuryServices/High5.htm
The rate changes every week but always = the average of the top 5 accounts listed by Moneyfacts, so it's always nearly the best-paying account. This week's rate is 4.22%.
You need to give 3 months notice, and need a minimum balance of £25K. It is post/phone operated. It IS covered by the FSA’s £50K compensation scheme.
They'll also give both you, and an existing account holder (referree), £50 when you apply. If you want to use me to get this, PM me for details.

I was also looking at the High5 to put away £30K+ for 6-7 months. Would it be best to opt for the interest to be paid annually and close the a/c when I need the money in August?
