    i think the sanctions are up to 6 months but are discretionary as mentioned above

    Yes someone can be sanctioned between 2 and 26 weeks. They can ask for this decision to be looked at again and they can also appeal against it.
  • Its a sad situation really. It seems the JS will only really help those with no intention of getting work. I think its unfair she cannot claim JSA considering she is looking for work and surely because she is studying they will see she isnt lazy and willing to better herself.


    There are two elements to JSA. One is actively looking for work, the other is your availability. It is the availability rule that is in question. It has to be realistic. Suppose someone signs-on as available for full-time work, but says they can't work on thursdays because of study. How many employers are going to want that person?

    So if you can't claim JSA if you've given your job up voluntarily, and you can't claim it if you've been sacked....just when exactly CAN you claim it??? It can't just be for people who are made redundant!

    People who have never worked and don't want to maybe :rolleyes:

    Joking aside you just have to wait before you can claim.
