Thanks to all the terrific help on this board am finally facing up to the debt. One thing that really helps is to be focused - which I think this form helps you to do. To that end I'm posting my goals for this week - I'd like to hear other peoples too to give me ideas & suggestions!! Here goes:
Aims for the week:
- spend less than £50 on food
- call NTL to see if we can get a reduction on their packages
- Call ALL cc companies see if I can get rate reduction
- call bank to ask if they have a cheaper account than the 16.2% o/d we have at the moment
- list more on eBay
- get a cheaper house ins quote
- write down ALL expenditure
- pay tax bill (£700)
Wish me luck!

Well done for making such a good start. Make sure you pay that tax bill TODAY!
Good luck.0 -
Excellent Sasha.
My goal is to get a £30 bank charge back from Northern Rock because they took my mortgage out twice in January!!!
Why the hell shoul I incur the charge for their mistake?
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
best of luck sasha
It would be great to hear at the end of the week if you've achieved all your goals, I'm sure you will :j0 -
Well done sasha, I hav'nt really got a goal for this week exept not waste any money needlessly.
I make my next payment to my cc on the 10th and unless I a few pounds here and there I will pay some more.

Hi Sasha,
Your goals sound great and really achievable. I really agree with writing things down as they seem more concrete.
This week I would like to:-
*Set up a standing order to pay my mum and dad back
*Set up a direct debit for my minimum Mint card payment (so at least the minimum is covered!)
*Organise when I can afford (in my budget plan) to pay for a new passport and driving license
*Pay some more of my overdraft off
*Make some soup (made two batches last night and burnt them both as too busy on MSE!)
*Not spend any money on non essentials. Have £10 a week left as 'pay myself first' money and this will be gobbled up by stamps, a birthday card etc.
SS xMBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500
Bank of Scotland = £2,782.830 -

Ask what they intend to do to compensate you for the embarrassment of overdrawing at the bank, as well as the refund of course. Might be easier to do that by letter rather than phone call, but then again be bold and sound cross.

Thanks everyone who has responded to my Goals for the week......I thought it might help to list them - since I am the world's best person at putting things off till tomorrow. Probably why I am in this state now!!
Anyhow, from my point of view if I actually put the weekly goals in here in black & white then I really can't ignore them - it really helps me to concentrate my mind to see them written down as a post. Also - reading other peoples list of goals is great because they will give me - & others - ideas. And this way we can see that we make progress - for sure I will post what I achieve & I hope others will do the same. I really feel that I can get somewhere:
To cornerclose - yes I paid the TAX BILL today. Tomorrow I am going to tackle the phone calls & will report back on progess.
BTW I had a really generous offer today - a VANQUIS credit card that says 'isn't it time you had the credit YOU deserve?' with an APR of 39.9%

goals for this week:
pay £200 off barclaycard = done
do weeks food shop for less than £50 = 39.10 so far
try to go another week without putting petrol in car!November NSD's - 70 -
OK all - an update on goals for the week:
- Called the bank re high interest charges on o/d account - they have another account that has a better rate on o/ds but has a monthly fee - not sure whether it is better or not!
- called MINT CC - totally uninterested in giving me any kind of rate reduction - said - no offers are showing on my screen & actually offered to close my account...duh! On plus side did make sure that my £20 late pmyt fee was refunded.
- called A&L CC - our highest rate CC at 26%. Nice lady told me that card had been 'stopped' last year - hadn't even realised they didn't send new cards as we don't use it any more. She said credit history was not good but seemed quite agreeable to reduce the rate - although she said they 'couldn't match a 0% deal' which she expected I had - I WISH! Only prob is that CC is in DH's name so HE has to call to try & get the card reinstated. Hmmmm
That's is so far folks - will call a couple of other ones, no pain, no gain as they say!

Hi Sashanut, well done for all you have achieved. I'm not doing too badly, paid off my M&S card last month (£726) and then recieved a late payment charge from them for £15 today! I phoned them immediately and they have just refunded the charge, as soon as I have the statement for February I'll be closing the account, just want to make sure it shows £0. I have just paid off our Morgan Stanley card £623 and today paid off a further £540 off various cc's and store accounts. Will be making more payments to cc's as the statements appear. Still a long way to go.........Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0
